In holistic living of our mission and values, our initiatives seek to contribute to the overall well-being of our human and nonhuman neighbors, within our watershed and beyond.
The vision builds on the current conservation work at Casa Adobe, expands it to a full urban reserve along the Virilla River (Part I), and extends to Casa Nube in the cloud forest (Part II) to impact the entire watershed. The dream is to reach the wetlands where these waters meet the ocean (Part III)
Ecological Justice
At ACA, we stand for justice for all living creatures and the essential elements that sustain them. That is why we have committed to the restoration of green spaces and have inspired members of our community to actively participate in these initiatives. These efforts also encompass environmental education, contemplation of the wonders of nature, pollution reduction, reforestation, and joint neighborhood cleanup efforts. We strongly believe in the power of education to rehabilitate our environment and remain steadfast in our dedication to upholding our values and appreciating all expressions of life.
Urban Park
Residents of Santa Rosa (Santo Domingo, Heredia, Costa Rica) remember swimming and fishing in the Virilla River. Today, they live with their backs to the river. ACA’s vision is to restore the relationship with the river and its entire ecosystem so that residents and the entire watershed or “Cuenca” can prosper.
Casa Nube:

Located in the cloud forest just outside of San José and right next to Costa Rica’s largest national park, Casa Nube is an ideal site for environmental conservation and education, scientific research, and retreats of all kinds.
Just 30 minutes from Santa Rosa, Casa Nube is a hidden gem nestled in the lush embrace of Heredia’s stunning mountains, a stone’s throw from Braulio Carrillo National Park. Spanning 11 hectares of vibrant life, Casa Nube is not just a campus but a symphony of possibilities. Migrant and refugee
accompaniment
An unwavering commitment of ACA is to offer compassionate and comprehensive accompaniment to migrants in Costa Rica. We prioritize the creation of spaces that foster meaningful dialogue, ensuring that migrants are not only heard but truly valued. Our services encompass psychological support, assistance in finding employment and housing, as well as the provision of clothing and food.
In addition, we actively cultivate connections by collaborating with like-minded organizations. This collaborative effort allows us to build a broader network of support for migrants, ensuring that they receive the necessary assistance, regardless of where their journey takes them.
Casa Esperanza
Community belonging and collaboration
We seek to generate and promote a sense of belonging and cohesion among the different local actors in the community of Santa Rosa. Among them are other community-based organizations, churches, and local schools. At the same time, we are involved in the urban planning processes that are carried out by entities such as the local government and public universities.
